An Independent Adoption Agency continuously Outstanding since 2007!
DFW Adoption has been awarded a judgement of ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted following their inspection in May 2017, which is the highest accolade an agency can achieve from the regulator. The inspection process which is carried out on all adoption agencies, fostering agencies, schools and nurseries is designed to ensure that all regulations, standards and guidance are adhered to and that all staff are capable of providing the best services possible for the children and families that require them.
This occasion marks the fourth consecutive inspection at which DFW Adoption has secured the highest award meaning the agency has now been judged outstanding for ten years. Needless to say the Trustees and the whole team are all delighted.
It has been somewhat of a difficult time lately for this small charity registered as a voluntary adoption agency because the number of children needing adoptive families has decreased and team members have all made sacrifices along the way to remain working for this agency, but the passion and determination shown by the social workers, their managers and supporting office staff has shone through once again.
This fantastic achievement establishes DFW Adoption as an exceptional adoption charity in the NE where staff are prepared to pour their heart and soul into making a difference to service users in the world of adoption. Their ethos is always to focus on continual improvement, allowing them to learn and evolve with each successful case so that they can provide a more effective service in the future for all the parties in adoption-children, adopters and birth families.
DFW Adoption’s director Jenny Parkin said, “I am absolutely delighted that this lovely, small and friendly and really supportive adoption agency has received this superb recognition from the regulator for the high quality of their services. The quotes in the inspection report from those who use the services, indicate the strengths of the agency in providing excellent support for service users and demonstrates the agency’s commitment to innovation in the field of adoption.”
Chair of Trustees, the Venerable Stuart Bain said, “This is a remarkable achievement, 4th in a row! It is testimony to the quality of the service provided by this agency -always seeking to put children at the heart of what we do.”
As a non-profit making charity based in Durham City with over 100 years of history of providing services to families; DFW Adoption specialise in matching harder to place children with suitable adoptive parents who will support, care and provide for them throughout their childhood and indeed as adults. The team are committed to guiding each prospective adopter through the journey of assessment, training and approval to finding a child and supporting them through the placement and then in taking the necessary steps to becoming their legal parent. Covering an area that stretches from Northumberland to North Yorkshire and west towards Cumbria means that DFW staff are able to match children with potential adoptive-parents throughout the North East. Despite being quite a small team, the social workers at DFW Adoption are more than competent in their abilities to assess the suitability of people who wish to adopt, approaching the task in an inclusive and non-discriminatory way. It is their passion to make sure that all decisions are made to benefit the welfare of the vulnerable children who require new families. They also provide excellent services to support adoptive families, to help adult adopted people and birth families affected by adoption, services all highly rated by Ofsted in the inspection report.
